 Saud Shakeel set a record during double ton in the Galle Test. He made an extraordinary performance and become the 23rd Pakistani batsman to score a double century.

Saud Shakeel set an example during the first Test match. He played in Galle and was declared as the first Pakistani batsman to achieve a double century in Sri Lanka.

His great innings of 208* (not out) break all the previous highest individual Test records of Pakistani players in Sri Lanka. It was Mohammad Hafeez (196) and Younis Khan (177).

His wonderful performance put Saud Shakeel the 23rd Pakistani batsman to score a double century in Test cricket.

After just 11 Test innings he now holds the record for the most runs (788) by a Pakistani batsman. His score of 788* places him ahead of Abdullah Shafique (720) and Javed Miandad (654).

Moreover, Saud Shakeel became only the second Pakistani batsman after Zaheer Abbas. In 1971, against England Zaheer Abbas achieved a double century in the first away Test match of a series.

Shakeel’s double century played an important role in the history of Pakistan cricket. Before Shakeel, Abid Ali was the last Pakistani cricketer to score a double hundred in Test cricket. Abid Ali made 215 runs on May 8, 2021, against Zimbabwe in Harare.

Saud Shakeel also joined an exclusive group of Test cricketers and made fifty or more runs in each of his first six matches. His efforts put him in the valued company of Sunil Gavaskar, Basil Butcher, Saeed Ahmad, and Bert Sutcliffe. And making him the fifth player in the history of cricket to accomplish this great feat.

Saud Shakeel can make another world record if he scores another fifty in his next Test match.
